Walk for Water: So They Don’t Have To
In the remote hills of the Myagdi district sit two settlements, the villages of Tikot and Sobande. On the steep, and vast terrain, the 44 households are scattered across the upper and lower belts of the hillside.
With a tricky 19km journey to reach the nearest town – much of which is on dirt roads, which can become impassable during the monsoon season – the households rely on subsistence agriculture and livestock. However agricultural production is often insufficient to meet their food requirements.
A Daily Burden
The villagers only had access to an old, partially working water system with an unreliable supply. Women and children would travel 20 minutes up to three times a day to collect water. During monsoon season the water would become muddy, meaning that families would need to revert to a basic cloth filtration method to try and make the water drinkable.
Making Changes in Myagdi
GWT have installed a brand new water supply system, successfully connecting the villages of Tikot and Sobande to a source of clean, safe, and sustainable water. By providing access to safe water on their doorstep, we have eliminated the gruelling daily task of fetching water, giving back vital time for the community to invest in local enterprise and education, laying the foundation for a more prosperous and self-reliant future.

Our Next Project
This May, you have the opportunity to do something incredible and join our virtual challenge ‘Walk for Water.’ We are asking supporters to walk up to three miles a day throughout May so that women and children in Nepal don’t have to. Funds raised through this challenge will go towards funding a new clean water project in the village of Sekaha.
