King Charles’ continued support of The Gurkha Welfare Trust.

We are delighted to have received a letter from Buckingham Palace confirming that King Charles will be continuing the Royal Patronage of The Gurkha Welfare Trust.

Following His Majesty The King’s Accession in September 2022, a major review of more than 1,000 Royal Patronages and charity Presidencies has been undertaken. Members of the Royal Family are proud to maintain close associations with more than 1,000 charities, military organisations, and professional and public service bodies, both in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth. The Gurkha Welfare Trust is immensely proud that we have been chosen to retain the patronage of our King.

King Charles has a longstanding connection with The Trust

His Majesty was previously Patron of the Gurkha Welfare Fund, an umbrella organisation that coordinated the activities of the Gurkha Welfare Trust, Gurkha Welfare Appeal (Canada), Gurkha Welfare Trust Foundation (USA) and the Kadoorie Agricultural Aid Association (BGN). Following the demise of GWA(C) and GWTF(USA), in 2009 The Prince of Wales graciously agreed to become Patron of the Trust, and we are delighted that his support will be ongoing following his coronation as King, continuing his close association with Nepal and the welfare of ex-servicemen of the Brigade of Gurkhas.

The letter from the Palace explains “I am pleased to confirm that His Majesty would be delighted to retain the Patronage of The Gurkha Welfare Trust. It is my great pleasure to share this news with you, to mark the first anniversary of Their Majesties’ Coronation.”

We are immensely grateful to each of our Patrons and Ambassadors who kindly lend their name to our cause to help us ensure that Gurkha veterans, their widows and their wider communities are able to live their lives with dignity in Nepal.
