Tail wags and fundraising success: A pawsome first year for the Tailwalker Challenge!

This April saw our first ever dog walking challenge, Tailwalker 2024. Many of our supporters took up the challenge and virtually followed the 100km Trailwalker route across the South Downs, in their own towns, with their furry companions, raising over £2000 to support Gurkha veterans, their families and communities in Nepal.

Participants pulled on their wellies in what has been reported as the wettest April since 2012. Some completed and, in some cases, exceeded the 100km goal within an impressive time, while others took a more gentle pace. We are extremely grateful for the efforts of each and every one of our dedicated Tailwalkers.

Making positive changes

As well as making a huge contribution towards the welfare of our Gurkha veterans and their communities in Nepal, the Tailwalker challenge has helped some of our participants make positive changes in their day to day lives.

“I thoroughly enjoyed this challenge; It encouraged me to carve time out of my daily schedule to spend out in nature with Laika. We both really enjoyed the longer walks, and I have found some great new routes that I will be using in the future.”
Adam, Tailwalker Partcipant

“Tailwalker with Jasmine, whom I believe is a German Malinois. Tailwalker has been a Godsend to me because the project motivated me to resume walking on our dead-end one-lane rural lane. I am amazed at the work GWT does in Nepal!”
Tom, Tailwalker Participant
