Supporters put on a Nepalese Feast for GWT

One of our 2023 Trailwalker teams – The Macknade Monster March – truly believe in the power of food & drink to create, maintain and enrich communities. They have used this belief to raise over £6,000 to support Gurkha veterans by selling tickets for a Nepalese dinner event.

The entire menu was created using recipes from our Chilli & Spice Recipe Club with ingredients for the meal kindly donated by the local community. Local produce used for the recipes included meat for the curries (Ellie’s Dairy and Sutton Hoo Chickens); momos (Shilas Kitchen); fresh berries and ice cream for dessert (Kelsey farms and Simply Ice cream). Simpsons Wine Estate also kindly donated ten bottles of sparking Rosé for the event.

The team also held a raffle during the evening with some fantastic prizes all donated by local businesses, including a bread-making lesson with Gilda bakery in Bishopsbourne, a mixed case of wine from Boutinot wine merchants, and a prize hamper from Macknade.

GWT Ambassador Hari Budha Magar, who earlier this year became the first double above-knee amputee to conquer Mount Everest, was delighted to support the event.

Through the generosity and kindness of the local community, all the money raised from the event will go to support our vital work helping Gurkha veterans, their families, and communities in Nepal.
