Nepal Weather & Flooding Update

Heavy rains on Monday 28th September caused widespread flooding and landslides across Nepal, with Chitwan among the hardest-hit regions.
The Government of Nepal is leading the primary response, and while The Gurkha Welfare Trust is not directly involved in emergency rescue operations, our field network is actively assessing local impacts.
We are relieved to report that all GWT staff are safe and accounted for, and our pensioners have avoided major direct impacts. Two families in Myagdi (Baglung) were safely relocated due to landslide risks, and our Area Welfare Centres are closely supporting 43 pensioners in Nuwakot and Dhading who are experiencing ongoing disruptions.
Although infrastructure damage and road closures, including key routes like the Mugling-Kathmandu highway, present ongoing access challenges, rainfall is easing across much of the country. Looking ahead, we will be exploring recovery efforts alongside the British Embassy, focusing on restoring essential community infrastructure, schools, health facilities, and water supply systems.
With weather conditions improving and clear skies returning over Pokhara today, we remain cautiously optimistic that the worst has passed. Our team in Nepal will continue monitoring developments closely to ensure our beneficiaries receive all the care they need.
