Life-changing treatment at our Medical Camp in Martadi

Providing vital care

The Gurkha Welfare Trust’s free Medical Camps are highly-regarded in Nepal, with some villagers in remote communities travelling for days to access our first-class treatment. For many, this is the only medical assistance they receive.

Our most recent Medical Camp in Martadi, in the hilly district of Bajura, was another great success. The Bajura District, located in the far west of Nepal, is one of the most remote districts in the area with little in the way of medical facilities.

Over the course of three days, our team delivered minor surgeries and physiotherapy services to 647 patients. Roughly 205 patients received specialist treatment in eye, ear, and prosthesis care.

Several weeks after we took measurements at our Medical Camp in Martadi, we rolled out an additional fitment camp for the patients who required prosthesis support, providing dozens of villagers with prosthetic limbs to improve their quality of life.

This young girl can better enjoy her childhood now that she has a prosthetic arm from our fitment camp.

One of our staff, Jay Limbu, said that those who attended the Medical Camp were so grateful that they wrote letters of appreciation to the Trust afterward.

“The entire process, method and treatment of the camp was very much appreciated by locals,” he said. “They said there were a few medical camps before, but impact-wise this has been the best Medical Camp ever.

“It is a real reward for us, and we believe it will motivate us to continue delivering high-quality, effective camps in the coming years.”
