Levison Wood becomes our newest Ambassador

We are delighted to announce that professional explorer, writer and photographer Levison Wood will become an Ambassador of The Gurkha Welfare Trust. Our Ambassadors work in partnership with us to help widen our appeal, reach new audiences, and promote our cause.
Levison has travelled and filmed in over one hundred countries worldwide, and his expeditions include walking the length of the river Nile, the Himalayas, all of central America and circumnavigating the Arabian Peninsula. His most recent project followed the migration and conservation of elephants in Botswana.
He spent a number of years as a Regular Officer in the British Parachute Regiment, where he served in Afghanistan fighting against Taliban insurgents in Helmand and Kandahar. His military services has seen him deploy on operations and exercises on five continents.
Levison visited Nepal in 2019 and experienced some of the work that we do for himself.
“As I sat down back at my desk back in London, I flicked through the photos I’d taken of the people I’d met that week, and was transported back to the tranquillity of the Himalayas. I stopped at the picture of Binod Gurung standing proudly by his tap. He was grinning from ear to ear. As were all the men and women in the photos before him. I’m often asked why I choose to return to Nepal, when there are still so many more countries I haven’t set foot in. The answer is simple: the people. Their happiness is infectious and their hospitality incomparable. And as those sentiments lingered, I looked at my 2020 calendar and started to plan my next mountain adventure in this wonderful country.”

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be named an Ambassador for The Gurkha Welfare Trust. These incredible men and women have given so much for our country, and it’s an honour to play a part in supporting them and their families.” – Levison Wood
The Gurkha Welfare Trust is incredibly proud to have Levison as an Ambassador, and we look forward to working closely with him to help raise awareness of our vital work in Nepal.
