Global Handwashing Day – Clean hands are within reach
Every 15th of October, the world unites to celebrate Global Handwashing Day—raising awareness about the simple yet effective act of washing hands with soap to prevent disease and save lives. Maintaining proper hand hygiene is fundamental to our health and well-being.

Staff from our Area Welfare Centres in Nepal run regular workshops on handwashing techniques to improve hygiene and reduce the risk of illness. At our water projects, as well as delivering clean water to rural villages, we establish a village committee including a Hygiene Worker and provide education so that they can promote good sanitation and hygiene practices.
In schools across Nepal, children are educated about the importance of handwashing. Studies from The Global Handwashing Partnership reveal that promoting hand hygiene results in improved school attendance among children.

In the face of the pandemic, the Trust worked in partnership with UK Aid to distribute handwashing stations equipped with informational guides at locations across Nepal including hospitals, clinics and schools. This initiative aimed not only to provide essential resources but also to empower communities with knowledge on best handwashing practices.

Global Handwashing Day serves as a reminder that a small act, such as washing hands with soap, can have a profound impact on public health.
