Giving Tuesday – Our thanks to our fundraisers!
This Giving Tuesday we would like to say a huge thank you to our fundraisers. Your contributions really do go a long way to helping us support Gurkha veterans, their widows and communities in Nepal.
Here are some recent fundraising challenges that have really grabbed our attention.
A Fundraising Doko Race
Two ex-Gurkha soldiers Cpl Thapa and Cfn Nepali held a two-phase challenge earlier this year.
Phase one of the challenge was a 31km run and the second phase was taken on by 15 participants from 6ACS Bn REME. The challenge saw all 15 complete a 5km race whilst carrying a Doko basket weighted with 10-15kg. The winner of the race completed it in an impressive 33 minutes and 30 seconds. The team raised an amazing £550 for The Gurkha Welfare Trust.

The Everest Stairmaster Challenge
LCpl Hengangsu Limbu and a team of five from QOGLR took on the challenge of climbing the height of Mount Everest on the Stairmaster – the equivalent of 44,250 steps. They were aiming to complete the challenge within three and a half hours – each member of the team completing a jaw-dropping 7375 steps! The team raised £662 for The Gurkha Welfare Trust.

Queen Elizabeth II Memorial March 2023
On Saturday 9th September 30 veterans, including six Gurkha veterans, and supporters, embarked on the annual Queen Elizabeth II Memorial March from Coalville Clocktower to the National Memorial Arboretum. This year the group planned to raise funds for The Gurkha Welfare Trust, a charity close to their hearts as there is a large Gurkha community in the town. The march raised an incredible £2,384 for our work.

The March started off at 6.00 am from the Clocktower Memorial on what was to be the hottest day of the year – and took the walkers on a 22-mile walk along country footpaths and local roads. The group was supported by vehicles providing safe passage along the road sections and giving the opportunity to any walkers who needed a rest to get a lift to the next meeting point.

On arrival, the group made their way to the Armed Forces Memorial where a wreath was laid by Kumar Rai and a moment was taken to remember their fallen brothers and sisters.
A massive thank you to everyone who has fundraised for us and all those who are planning their own events.
Your contributions go a long way to allow us to help Gurkha veterans, their widows and communities live with dignity.
Here is an idea of how your fundraising could help:
• £103 could provide a monthly pension for one veteran or widow
• £220 could provide a new toilet for a household
• £2,710 could cover the cost of refurbishing a school.
