Viking Kunwor of Heritage Knives visits our Residential Homes in Nepal

Viking Kunwor is a proud sixth-generation descendant of Captain Balbhadra, the legendary warrior renowned for his heroic defense of Nalapani Fort against the British during the Anglo-Gurkha War of 1814. Being linked to such an esteemed figure is a profound honor for Viking and has fueled his deep passion for Kukri knives.

From Heritage to Handcrafted

Inspired by his Gorkhali heritage, Viking developed a keen interest in the intricate craftsmanship behind forging kukris and the rich history of this iconic weapon, which once instilled fear in enemies across historic battlefields. His fascination, particularly with the kukris used in the two World Wars and their variations across different Gurkha regiments, eventually led him to establish a business, Heritage Knives which is dedicated to producing and selling traditional Gurkha kukris. In addition to these legendary blades, he has also ventured into crafting high-quality kitchen knives, which have gained increasing popularity within Nepal.

Supporting GWT

Heritage Knives have been supporting GWT since 2020. A family-owned business with roots in both Nepal and Sweden, all of their kukris and knives are made by blending Himalayan and Western knife-making techniques and traditions, combining traditional arts with modern science.

“We base our Kukri designs on classical antique patterns as used in history by the Gurkhas and other military forces over the last centuries. Vast research has gone into each knife we make.”

A Visit to Nepal

Viking travelled to Nepal this January 2025. During his trip he visited each of our Residential Homes in Kaski and Dharan to donate a set of chef knives to the kitchens of each to support our staff in preparing nutritious meals for our residents.

“Such firsthand encounters are so important and I would like to extend our gratitude to the GWT for making a visit possible. It was very heartfelt and our commitment to support the GWT is stronger than ever before.”

He also presented each resident with their own branded tote bag. “We handed over gifts to the wonderful residents, chatted and shared smiles in the afternoon sun. It was a heartfelt moment, reminding how important it is to help where we can. An amazing opportunity to see a little more of the GWTs amazing work in Nepal.”

“GWT’s work is truly amazing and we all feel very blessed to been given the opportunity to visit both RH’s and look forward to continue to support to GWTs work over the coming years”

“Once again a huge thank you from us at Heritage Knives Nepal and look forward to visit in the coming years while we continue to support the GWT’s amazing work. The Organisation, the residents, the staff, all truly remarkable!”
