We are thrilled to share the release of an extraordinary memoir “Conquering Dreams” by Hari Budha Magar, record-breaking mountaineer, former Royal Gurkha Rifleman, and GWT Ambassador.
From Adversity to the Top of the World
In 2010, while serving with the Royal Gurkha Rifles in Afghanistan, Hari’s life changed forever when he stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The blast resulted in the loss of both of his legs above the knee.
In Conquering Dreams, Hari opens up about the devastating initial impact of his injuries, his struggle with severe mental health challenges, and the pivotal moments that helped him rebuild his life. Driven by an unyielding Gurkha spirit and a determination to redefine what is possible for double above-the-knee amputees, Hari set his sights on the highest peak on Earth: Mount Everest.
In May 2023, Hari made history by becoming the first double above-the-knee amputee to summit Everest, proving to the world that disability is no barrier to achieving extraordinary dreams.
Hari has received an MBE for disability awareness and won a Pride of Britain award. Next, will be the release of his truly inspirational book.
“I’m super excited to tell my story. Conquering Dreams was the name of my Mt. Everest expedition. To climb Mt. Everest was my childhood dream, later this became the name of my 7 Summits expeditions. I don’t climb mountains to become famous, make money or win awards, I climb to raise awareness of disability and inspire others to climb their own mountains and conquer their dreams whatever they may be. Through this book, I hope to continue do so. I may have lost my legs but I found my purpose. Once we find our purpose nothing can stop us. I hope people will enjoy reading my journey, which will help create greater awareness of disability and inspire others. Life is all about adaptation and nothing is impossible.”
