Samachara: two amazing milestones
50 years of clean water
As we started writing our recent newsletter, we had an important milestone to celebrate – 50 years since our first water project in Nepal. Our field team revisited Khilang village, the location of one of our first community water projects. The village, perched on a steep mountainside, had no road access at the time, so workers had to carry all the construction materials in by hand. 50 years on, the same water source is still serving the village, a sustainable source of clean, safe water and a testament to the enduring impact of the Trust’s work.
An incredible story, one of many we have had the privilege to share with you over the years.
30 years of newsletters
Looking back through the archives, we realised we had another reason to celebrate – 30 years since the very first issue of our Samachara newsletter, in winter 1996.

In 2013 Samachara underwent a revamp and, with so much news to share, increased to six pages and then eight pages.
In 2017 the newsletter was refreshed again, with a more engaging, modern look, and high quality images. Bringing us up to the present, our Samachara now has twelve pages packed with features, news and updates on events and fundraising activities.
Samachara on the move!
In 2025 we recognised the need to make our newsletter accessible to even more people, and released our first podcast. You can now listen to every issue, read out by members of staff from our UK and Nepal offices.

While the style of Samachara has evolved over the past 30 years, its purpose has remained the same: sharing the human stories at the heart of our work.
Together, we’ve followed our field teams delivering vital financial and medical support, seen communities transformed through clean water, safe homes and new schools, and witnessed lives changed by essential treatment, surgery and prosthetic limbs. These stories reflect extraordinary resilience, dedicated teams and, above all, the difference your support makes.
In every issue, the Gurkha veterans, widows and communities we support have shared their heartfelt thanks to you, our donors. Because without you, none of this would be possible.
Thank you for joining us on this journey.
