In photos: Global Handwashing Day
October 15 is Global Handwashing Day, an international advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.

Promoting effective sanitation techniques is a feature across all of our services in Nepal.
Our Welfare Centres regularly hold workshops for our Gurkha veterans and widows on handwashing to help reduce the risk of illness. When our team deliver clean water to villages we set up volunteer committees to promote effective sanitation techniques, and when we build schools we ensure that classes are held to inform children of the importance of washing their hands.
“Handwashing with soap is the easiest and cheapest way to reduce child mortality.”
UNICEF Representative in Nepal Gillian Mellsop.
