Teams conquer Trailwalker 2022, with fantastic results

First to finish Trailwalker 2022 were the Queen’s Gurkha Signals, at 10 hours 16 minutes.

Many congratulations to all the challengers who participated in Trailwalker 2022 and proved they could take on the ultimate endurance event! We also owe a big ‘thank you’ to our mighty team of volunteers, who cheered on runners and walkers alike and kept everyone fed all weekend.

A buzzing event

We had a wonderful turnout of participants. This year, 764 individuals joined 191 teams to traverse the South Downs Way. Gurkha pipers were on hand to encourage teams through the start and finish lines.

Teams had a target to finish the 100km course in 30 hours or less, and put in an incredible effort to tackle the hilly route as fast as possible. The winning team was the Queen’s Gurkha Signals, who crossed the finish line in an incredible 10 hours and 16 minutes. Coming in second were the Queen’s Gurkha Engineers at 11 hours and one minute, and third to cross were the ‘A Team’ from The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles at 11 hours and 38 minutes.

The Platinum Jubilee Team

The team celebrate reaching a trig point after a mighty climb!

This year we put together a GWT ‘Platinum Jubilee’ team to take on Trailwalker, with the money raised going toward two school projects in Nepal. One, Siddeshwar Basic School is situated in Parbat District, and the other, Maidan Secondary School is located in Syangja District. Not only did the Platinum Jubilee Team cross the finish line in less than 24 hours, but they raised £18,469, beating their £12,000 goal by a landslide. These school improvements will create a much better learning environment for hundreds of Nepali children, giving them a brighter future.

Fundraising for Gurkha veterans and widows

The event has raised over £200,000 and counting for Oxfam and The Gurkha Welfare Trust, a fantastic result. Proceeds will go toward our vital work supporting Gurkha veterans and widows in Nepal, as well as Oxfam’s work to fight poverty around the world.

Our sincerest thanks go out to the dedicated volunteers and challengers who made this year’s Trailwalker an unforgettable adventure. Dhanyabad!
