GWT Assistant Area Welfare Officer Nir Bikram Limbu Honoured for Heroic Actions in AWC Kaski Fire

Nir Bikram Limbu, Assistant Area Welfare Officer(AAWO) at AWC Kaski has received a Commendation for Exemplary Leadership and Courage following his brave actions when a fire broke out at the Area Welfare Centre in Kaski.

The Incident: A Fire at AWC Kaski

At approximately 11.00pm on Friday 1 August 2025, an electrical fire broke out on the first floor of the Project Cell – Community Aid building at AWC Kaski. As the office was unoccupied and located in a remote section of the premises, the fire alarm initially went undetected. A vigilant local resident spotted the blaze and immediately raised the alarm, alerting on-site staff and nearby individuals to assist. AAWO Nir Bikram Limbu, in his capacity as AWC Duty Officer, promptly alerted both security personnel and the fire brigade while coordinating the emergency response.

A Heroic Response

Demonstrating exceptional composure and decisive leadership, Nir Bikram took immediate action. Without regard for his own safety, he entered the burning building equipped with fire extinguishers to suppress the flames. He efficiently directed security staff to assist and organised the retrieval of additional extinguishers from across the premises. His prompt and coordinated efforts ensured an effective initial response, preventing injuries and significantly limiting further damage. Field Director, Johnny Fenn presented the Commendation on Thursday 7th August at the Bi-annual Training at British Gurkhas Pokhara.

Minimising Damage and Averting Disaster

While the incident caused some damage to infrastructure and equipment, AAWO Nir Bikram’s quick thinking and courageous actions prevented the fire from escalating, thereby safeguarding lives and minimising operational disruption. His conduct exemplified the highest standards of bravery, professionalism, and dedication. Had it not been for his selfless intervention, the damage could have been far more severe, potentially impacting AWC’s operations for an extended period.
