Himalayan Heights for Heroes: Daisy Rex takes on incredible challenge for GWT

Today, 1st August 2025, one brave supporter is embarking on an incredible challenge to raise vital funds for The Gurkha Welfare Trust.
A heartfelt quest
Daisy’s undertaking is deeply rooted in a lifelong personal connection to Nepal and the Gurkhas:
“I have been hugely captivated by the magnificent people and hills of Nepal, and after growing up in the Brigade of Gurkhas as a daughter, there is no better cause to take on this epic challenge for than GWT. I’m really excited to attempt the route but no doubt it will be massively tough at times, carrying my own rucksack at high altitudes.”

The Challenge: The Great Himalaya Trail (High Route)
This dangerous and adventurous route is renowned for being one of the longest and highest alpine walking tracks in the world.
The Nepal section alone is about 1,700 kilometres long and typically takes around 150 days to complete. Daisy has challenged herself to complete the trail in just 90 days! She will tackle 15 passes over 5000m and some of the world’s most remote and unforgiving terrain.
During the trek, Daisy will be carrying all her supplies, including a tent. Where possible, she will make use of accommodation at local home stays and tea houses.

“I am hugely excited to attempt such a challenge, but most importantly, cannot wait to be amongst the magnificent people and hills of Nepal for the next few months, as well as raise some money for such an important charity.”
We wish Daisy the best of luck on this incredible challenge and look forward to sharing updates on her progress over the coming weeks.
