Hello Doctor – supporting Nepal during COVID-19
In this time of change and uncertainty we have seen members of our staff and our Gurkha veteran community rally together and help each other.
One of the ways the team in Nepal have been able to support the wider public during lockdown is via the dissemination of medical advice. Though many of our doctors are still regularly deployed to provide assessments and medication to vulnerable veterans and widows across the country, we have been able to spare some of our medical team to the ‘Hello Doctor’ initiative in the Gandacki province of Nepal.
A toll-free advice hotline, Hello Doctor offers medical advice over the phone in Nepal to the general public – something especially important during the pandemic we face.
GWT Medical Director, Dr Gerda Pohl, MRCGP commented:
“The medical services we provide are a lifeline for thousands. To be able to share that further via Hello Doctor is a privilege and something the team are proud to be a part of.”
In total four of our team manned the phone lines over seven days: Dr Srijana, Dr Shyam, Dr Roman and Dr Milan. During that time the team spoke to 56 callers and referred three patients to be tested for COVID-19.
