One young supporter’s mission to make a difference: Cycling 350 miles from London to Paris

A young hero inspired by service
Eleven-year-old Alexandra Hill is a keen cyclist, and this summer she is turning her passion for cycling into a mission to make a difference. Inspired by her father, Jimmy, a wounded SBS veteran who dedicates much of his time to charitable causes, and close family friend Captain Henry Clark of 2RGR, Alexandra was motivated to follow in their footsteps.
Guided by their dedication and example, she set out to do something extraordinary that will make a genuine, lasting difference to Gurkha veterans and their families in Nepal. Between 2-10th August, Alexandra will be cycling 350 miles between London and Paris to raise money for The Gurkha Welfare Trust.

Building a Safe Haven in Nepal
Alexandra has set a goal to raise £5000 and would love to raise enough money to be able to fund an Earthquake-Resilient home for a Gurkha veteran or widow in Nepal. (The cost of an Earthquake-Resilient Home is around £9,800 and will take between 3-4 months depending on the weather). “Amazing for an 11 year old to undertake this and at her age to show compassion and gratitude for others. She deserves to get this house built!” Close family friend.
A Challenge of Her Own
Although Alexandra’s parents will be accompanying her on her trip, this is her challenge. She won’t just be cycling, she will also be navigating the route and carrying her own equipment.
“I want to show that no matter how young you are, you can still make a real difference.
This will be a huge physical and emotional challenge, but I am determined to keep pedalling, knowing that every mile will help support Gurkha veterans and widows who have given so much.” Alexandra Hill
Navigating through 350 miles of busy roads, enduring gruelling daily mileage, and pushing through physical exhaustion will test her resilience at every turn. But seeing her commitment to the cause firsthand fills her family with immense pride.
“Watching Alexandra take responsibility for this challenge has made us incredibly proud. She is showing real determination, resilience and compassion, and she understands that every mile she completes can help someone who has given so much during their service. This is her mission, and we are simply alongside her to keep her safe. She is extremely proud to be supporting Gurkha veterans and hopes that every mile she cycles will help bring a family closer to having a safe and secure home.” Alexandra’s Parents.
