An Unforgettable Weekend at Trailwalker

The Ultimate Challenge

We were thrilled to wrap up our summer programme of events with a truly incredible Trailwalker weekend. This year we welcomed over 250 teams of four to the South Downs who were prepped and ready to take on the mighty course.

Early on Saturday morning, the participants set off across the 100km of rolling hills of the South Downs, with one shared aim –  to cover the distance within 30 hours. As well as being the distance of almost two and a half marathons, the altitude gain is the equivalent of scaling both Mount Snowdon and Ben Nevis!

Triumph for Queen’s Gurkha Engineers

Huge congratulations to this year’s winners, Team Balaram, who finished in an impressive 9 hours and 47 minutes!

15 Signal Regiment Team A came in second place, completing the course in only 10 hours and 45 minutes.

The third team were not far behind, and the Parachute Engineer Regiment – Team Khukuri made it to the finish line in just 10 hours and 59 minutes.

The fastest civilian team to make it through to the finish line were A & K Run Crew, who completed the 100km in 14 hours and 26 minutes.

An event to remember

The atmosphere was charged as teams arrived at Queen Elizabeth Country Park on Friday evening. Once registrations had been completed and event T-shirts collected, teams gathered together to fuel up at the annual Pasta Party!

In the early hours of Saturday morning, the sun was yet to rise but the first wave of teams were up and preparing to set off from 6am. Filled with adrenaline and excitement, all five waves were soon on their way, with the final teams setting off at 8am to the sound of the Gurkha Pipers.

In the hours that followed, teams made their way east across the South Downs, tackling challenging terrain and some tough hills. The fastest teams, both military and civilian, made incredible progress finishing before sundown on Saturday! Teams of walkers valiantly trekked on through the night, relying on their Support Crew to meet them at checkpoints and provide all-important food, hot drinks, and moral support!

A huge group of volunteers and proud supporters awaited at the finish line at Brighton Racecourse, cheering every team through. Finishers were then rewarded with a Trailwalker medal and, of course, the legendary Gurkha curry cooked up by QGS!

A phenomenal success

To each and every participant – you have achieved something truly phenomenal! Walking or running 100km is a remarkable achievement. Whether you made it to the finish in record time or just kept going when you thought you would never make it, just to take on this challenge is incredible.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Queens Gurkha Signals, all of our volunteers, and the support teams for their outstanding hard work and support. Your help has been invaluable in making Trailwalker 2025 such a success. Thank you also to Queen Elizabeth Country Park and Brighton Racecourse for giving us access to these wonderful venues.

Finally, a huge thank you to all of the Trailwalkers – We are immensely grateful to all of you! Together you have raised over £182,000 for The Gurkha Welfare Trust. This is a truly remarkable contribution to our work supporting Gurkha veterans, their families and communities in Nepal.
