600 Miles to Mandalay – Fundraising Heroes!

Two Gurkha Soldiers of 2RGR are running 600 miles to raise money for The Gurkha Welfare Trust and Combat Stress.

Rfn Laxman Gurung and Rfn Parsuram Buda have embarked on a three-month challenge beginning early September, to run 600 miles which is the distance from Nepal to Mandalay. Their motto, ‘600 Miles to Mandalay: Step by Step, We Conquer with Courage,’ guides them on this ambitious journey.

“Just as the Allied forces, including the brave Gurkhas, advanced towards Mandalay step by step, overcoming obstacles and fierce resistance, we are approaching our 600-mile challenge with the same mindset of perseverance and resilience.”

“Imagine our journey as retracing the path of the Gurkhas, who, despite difficult terrain and intense fighting, pressed on towards their goal. Each mile we run represents a step towards Mandalay, symbolising the steady progress the soldiers made, despite setbacks and challenges. The key lesson from the Gurkhas’ march and the fall of Mandalay is that every obstacle can be overcome with persistence, mental toughness, and a clear focus on the goal.”

“Just as they didn’t turn back when faced with difficulties like crossing the Irrawaddy River or the heavily fortified walls of Fort Dufferin, we too will push through any physical or mental barriers. By completing 600 miles, we will have mirrored the endurance and spirit of those who fought their way to Mandalay—proving that determination can conquer any challenge.”

“Through this journey, we are raising funds for the Gurkha Welfare Trust to honor the legacy of the Gurkhas and give back to those who have served with such courage and commitment. Every step we take in this charity run not only brings us closer to our goal but also supports the welfare and wellbeing of the Gurkha veterans and their families. Together, we can make a difference, honoring the Gurkhas’ spirit by ensuring they are cared for as they deserve.”

This is an incredible challenge and the team have already raised almost half of their goal of £1500.
