Well done to our Doko North Challengers 2026

On Sunday 31 May 2026 a group of determined fundraisers pushed their limits, embracing the Gurkha spirit as they took on the 5km Doko Challenge at Roundhay Park in Leeds.

A huge thank you to everyone who took on this year’s Doko North Challenge helping to raise over £4,000 for The Gurkha Welfare Trust. These funds will go such a long way in supporting vulnerable Gurkha veterans, their widows, and communities in Nepal.

We like to extend a special thank you to Mr Laxmibhakta Bantawa MBE, who has smashed his fundraising target again this year raising an incredible £1,595 for The Trust so far. Laxmi joined the Gurkhas in 1976, serving in the 10th Gurkha Rifles and then in The Royal Gurkha Rifles (RGR), holding the prestigious position of Gurkha Major in the 2nd Battalion of the Regiment before his retirement.

Highlights

The day brought together a group of wonderful people and the sense of solidarity and achievement on the day was palpable.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone who took part in this year’s Doko North.  Roundhay Park is such a beautiful location, and the event was a fantastic display of determination and community spirit, as our participants took on the demanding 5km course. It was inspiring to see so many people embrace the challenge and push themselves for such a worthwhile cause. To have already raised approximately £4,000 is a brilliant achievement, and every penny will go such a long way towards supporting vulnerable veterans, widows and communities in Nepal.” Keta Forde, GWT Events and Community Manager
