Floods & landslides cause destruction in Nepal

Nepal experienced unprecedented rainfall between 26-28th September with 20 districts reported to have been affected by the worst rainfall seen in over 50 years.

The heavy rainfall caused widespread damage, including landslides and flooding of homes and infrastructure. The capital city, Kathmandu, was hit particularly hard, with numerous neighbourhoods affected.

As of today (1 October) over 200 people are reported to have lost their lives with a further 27 missing and 156 people have been injured in the disaster.

Three of our field team in Diktel in the east of Nepal, became stranded on their way to Kathmandu as the river Rosi Khola broke its banks and swept away the road ahead and behind them. A rescue mission was carried out on Sunday and all three were airlifted to safety.

We have been reaching out to all of our pensioners to check they are safe and well and are relieved to report that all are out of harm’s way.

Our hearts go out to all affected by this disaster, our teams will be back out on the road to visit our pensioners as soon as it is safe.

At this hour of grief for many in Nepal, His Majesty King Charles III has sent a message of condolence to all those affected by the floods and landslides.
