July 2021: Our month in pictures
Delivering vital healthcare
Ensuring our Gurkha veterans and widows received their healthcare and medication this month was more important than ever. With Nepal facing another tumultuous monsoon season and struggling to cope with the spread of Covid-19, our dedicated Pensioner Support Teams dug out paths for their 4x4s in steep mud, averted landslides, and hiked for miles to reach our vulnerable pensioners living in the hills of Nepal.
Commemorating the Gurkhas with Garden Galas
Supporters commemorated the Gurkhas’ contribution to our Armed Forces this month by holding Garden Galas. Attendees enjoyed curry lunches, cream teas, and cakes, all while raising funds for the benefit of Gurkha veterans and their families in Nepal.
Kaski Residential Home celebrates 11th anniversary
Earlier this month, Gurkha veterans and widows at our Kulbir Thapa VC Residential Home enjoyed some cake and celebrated the home’s 11th anniversary. This was the first Residential Home of its kind in Nepal, launched by GWT in 2010.
The game is on!
July was filled with heated sports events, from Euro 2020 to the Wimbledon tennis championships. Residents in our Dharan Residential Home got into the spirit of things and enjoyed some healthy competition as well!
Jim Morton’s journey reaches 100th day and 2,000 miles
Royal Navy veteran Jim Morton has been walking for over three months along the coast of Mainland Britain to fundraise for Gurkha veterans. Toward the end of July he hit the twin milestones of walking for 100 days and 2,000 miles – a significant portion of his coastal challenge which will total 400 days and 7,500 miles! Jim wishes for the money he raises to go toward building earthquake-resilient homes for Gurkha veterans and their families.
