Garden Galas take place across the country for GWT

Last week supporters invited their friends, family and colleagues to Garden Gala events across the UK.

While some have chosen to take part later in the summer when restrictions relax further, others held curry lunches, cream teas and created table-top displays to show their support for the Gurkhas.

In Colchester, the Gurkha community serving with the MPS Regiment at The Military Corrective Training Centre in Colchester organised a Garden Gala one lunchtime. The staff and visitors enjoyed a delicious home-cooked Nepalese curry with momos and fresh roti, followed by cake in the grounds of the prison.

The Commandant of MCTC, Lt Col Lee Pearce, said

“Gurkhas are an integral part of the British Army, and we are lucky to have some of those Gurkhas who have chosen to transfer to the wider British Army.  I am proud to serve alongside them.

“As a regiment we should ensure that the veterans are not forgotten and we owe a duty to support them, their families, and the communities in Nepal.  It is also a great opportunity to celebrate the diversity in the MPS Regiment and to showcase the amazing cooking talents of our guys.”

Meanwhile, outside his home in Kent, Don Hyatt shared a cup of tea with his neighbours and friends, utilising the small courtyard outside his home.

“It was great to see some friends after the last year, and we even had two passing cars stop to pop over, say hello and donate. I enjoyed it and hopefully can hold another one next year with my daughter’s help in her new garden.”

Many others held their own galas around the country. A huge thank you to everyone who took part. The money raised will be put to good use, as our team continues to battle monsoon conditions in Nepal to reach the vulnerable Gurkha veterans and widows who need our help.
