Below you’ll find answers to the questions we get asked the most about The Gurkha Doko Challenge.
How much is it to enter?
• Early bird registration fee (18th March 2019 - 18th April 2019): £20.00
• Standard registration fee: £25.00
How do I register for a place?

When is the closing date for registration?
Entries will close at 5pm on Tuesday 18 June, or before if the event reaches capacity.
How will I know I am officially registered?
You will receive an email to say "Congratulations you are entered for The Gurkha Doko Challenge!"
Can I enter on the day?
Limited entries may be available on event day (subject to the event not reaching capacity). Please check the website for updates to see if this is possible.
Is it possible to enter as a team?
Yes – on the entry system please enter your team name and we will place you in the same wave as your teammates. There is a maximum of 10 in a wave so only 10 people per team will be able to race together.
Is there an age limit for taking part?
All entrants must be 18 years plus on the day of the event to be able to take part.
I am a wheelchair user or have specific access requirements, can I take part?
Unfortunately, due to the arduous terrain, the Gurkha Doko Challenge is not suitable for wheelchair participants.
What kit will I need?
• Comfortable running shoes
• Either running shorts or jogging bottoms
• Waterproof Jacket (just in case)
• Layers to keep warm before and after the race
• Water bottle
The event will take place in any weather. If extreme weather conditions are forecast, the situation will be reviewed and participants will be informed 48 hours before the event, this is Britain! Please check the forecast and come ready in appropriate clothing to keep warm/stay cool.
Are there any associated runs for children?
Unfortunately, we are only providing a race option for adult participants. Families, children and supporters are welcome to come along and cheer on the participants, to take in the atmosphere and enjoy the day.
I have registered but am now unable to take part, what are my options?

Can I give my race number to someone else?
No, numbers are not transferable, please do not give your race number to someone else. For safety reasons we need to know who is taking part and their contact details.
I’ve been injured/I am not feeling well…can I still run?
Please seek advice directly from your GP regarding this matter. This is a challenging event and we only advise participants to take part if they are fit and well.
Can I amend my details?
Yes you will need to visit the entry page and use your email address to log in and amend your details.
When will I receive my race pack?
Race packs can be collected on the day of the event at the registration tent. Event information will be emailed out to participants and available to download on our website from four weeks prior to the event.
What will my race pack contain?
Running number and a timing chip. Race information will be sent via email and downloadable from the event website 4 weeks prior to the event.
My race pack doesn’t contain all the items it should, what should I do?
Please let a member of the event staff know at the registration tent.
When will I receive my race start time?
This will be emailed to you, with your race information at least four weeks before the event. Race start times will be between 10am – 12noon.
Do I need to register on the day of the event?
Yes, please go to the Registration Tent on arrival.
What will the Doko basket be filled with to make up my chosen weight?
If the Doko weight I have pre-chosen is too heavy on event day, can I change this?
Yes, if you are not comfortable with the weight you have chosen when you try it on, it will be possible to change it. Please arrive at least an hour before your start time to be properly fitted with your Doko basket. The minimum weight is 5kg. A team from The Brigade of Gurkhas will be available to help.
When will I receive my official time?
At the end of the race, you will be able to check your race time immediately and all finish times can be checked online after the event.

Is there a baggage drop facility?
Yes, there will be a baggage drop tent available for participants if necessary. Although the baggage area will be manned throughout the day, the event staff cannot take any responsibility for your belongings. Please bring minimal kit to the site.
Is there parking available on site?
Yes, there is free parking available on the event site. Look out for the road signs on arrival!
Can I borrow a Doko basket to train with?
We do not have spare Dokos unfortunately, as they are specially made in Nepal for us. The best training aid is a backpack worn with two shoulder straps with your chosen weight inside.
What happens if I can’t carry the Doko all the way around the course?
We will have marshals and Gurkha soldiers helping around the course to give you encouragement and assistance. If you need to stop or leave your Doko partway through the race please find your nearest steward and they will assist you.
What happens if I don’t make the 46 minute Doko Challenge finish time?
Don’t worry! You can finish the challenge in your own time.
Will there be refreshments available around the course?
No, water will be available to participants at the finish line. Please come to the race hydrated and bring any drinks or foods you will need for pre, during and post-challenge.
