Providing financial medical and community aid to alleviate hardship and distress among Gurkha ex-servicemen of the British Crown

Rifleman Pun

Rifleman Pun was in fine health for a 91 year old. However, 10 years ago, in the days before the Trust's medical scheme, he developed a lump on his neck.

Frightened of doctors and uncertain of the care he would receive, Rifleman Pun decided to battle on. The lesion grew and grew.

In the late 1990s, the Trust instigated a comprehensive medical scheme. Each welfare pension payment day, the AWC Medical Officer would speak with Rifleman Pun to offer the encouragement and reassurance he needed to seek treatment for his condition.

He was admitted to Manipul Hospital and after a simple operation he is no longer afflicted by the danger and discomfort of the growth.
