The GWS operates through a network of 19 Area Welfare Centres across the Brigade's traditional recruiting areas in Nepal as well as one centre in Darjeeling, India. This extensive network is supported by 13 patrol bases reaching far into the Hills.
AWC Bheri
There are 259 welfare pensioners that visit the Bheri AWC. The AWC is run by Honorary Lieutenant Tirthabahadur Thapa, Ex 2RGR. In 2010/11, it distributed over £138,000.00 on welfare pension, medical aid, hardship and disability grants and educational grants. The AWC has a pig farm.
AWC Gulmi
AWC Gulmi is run by Honorary Lieutenant Deobahadur Rana Ex Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment. The AWC supports 441 welfare pensioners. There are nine GWT built schools within the area. There is a fruit and vegetable garden at the AWC.
AWC Kaski
Kaski is the second largest AWC with 946 welfare pensioners. Major (Ret'd) Krishna Gurung BEM, Ex Queen's Gurkha Signal is the Area Welfare Officer. In 2010/11, it distributed over £657,000.00 on welfare pension, medical aid, hardship and disability support grants and education grants.
AWC Lamjung
Lamjung has 313 welfare pensioners. Medical and eye camps are held at the AWC each year. The AWC is run by WO2(Ret'd) Shriprasad Tamang Ex 1RGR. In 2010/11, it awarded 3,182 medical aid grants.
AWC Gorkha
Gorkha has 272 welfare pensioners. There is bee keeping at the AWC as well as a fruit and vegetable garden. 278 hardship grants were awarded in 2010/11. The AWC is run by Lieutenant (Ret'd) Senbahadur Gurung Ex 6GR.
AWC Syangja
Syangja is run by Captain (Ret'd) Surendra Gurung Ex 1RGR. It has 647 welfare pensioners. There are eight GWT built schools in the Syangja area.
AWC Tanahun
Tanahun looks after 412 welfare pensioners. The AWC has a pig farm. Honorary Lieutenant Haribahadur Rana, Ex 1RGR is in charge. In 2010/11, it distributed over £210,000.00 on welfare pension, medical aid, hardship and disability support grants and medical aid.
AWC Chitwan
Chitwan has 425 welfare pensioners. Captain(Ret'd) Rukumbahadur Rana Ex 1RGR manages the AWC. There is a cancer hospital in Chitwan. There are 10 water projects in the surrounding area.
Butwal
Butwal is run by Captain(Ret'd) Mekbahadur Gurung, Ex 1 RGR. It is the largest AWC, looking after 1,125 welfare pensioners. In 2010/11, it distributed over 620,000.00 on welfare pension, medial aid, hardship and disability support grants and medical aid.
AWC Bagmati
Run by Captain (Ret'd) Jitbahadur Thapa Ex 1RGR, Bagmati has 544 welfare pensioners. In 2010/11 it awarded 57 educational grants to children of the Brigade. In addition, it distributed £548,200.00 on welfare pension, medical aid and hardship and disability support grants.
AWC Rumjatar
AWC Rumjatar is one of the smallest AWCs supporting 190 welfare pensioners. It is run by Honorary Lieutenant Chhatrabahadur Rai ex Queen's Gurkha Signals. The AWC has orange farming, a fish pond and bee keeping.
AWC Diktel
The AWC is run by Inspector Subharaj Thamsuhang ex GCSPF. It supports 351 welfare pensioners. The AWC has a fish pond. In 2010/11 It granted 390 hardship grants, 12 disability support grants and provided fund for 31 cases of education aid.
AWC Bhojpur
WO2 (Retd) Barhajit Rai Ex 7 GR, who runs the AWC looks after 226 welfare pensioners. In 2010/11 Bhojpur awarded 9 educational grants and provided 240 hardship grants.
Khandbari
AWC Khandbari is managed by Captain (Ret'd) Purnaprasad Limbu Ex 2 RGR. The AWC supports 163 welfare pensioners.
Tehrathum
AWC Tehrathum is managed by Honorary Lieutenant Tikararm Rai Ex 10 GR. It supports 217 welfare pensioners. It distributed £120,000.00 on welfare pensions, medical aid, disability support and hardship grants and education aid in 2010 - 11.
AWC Taplejung
Taplejung has 235 welfare pensioners. Run by Hon Lieutenant (Ret'd) Punendraprasad Limbu, Ex 2 RGR, it offers vocational training courses to ex members of the Brigade and their families. It distributed over £120,000.000 on welfare pension, medical aid, hardship and disability support grants and education aid in 2010 - 11.
AWC Phidim
Phidim has 257 welfare pensioners. Major (Ret'd) Dalbahadur Limbu, Ex QGE, manages the AWC. It distributed £136,000.00 on welfare pension, Medical Aid, Hardship and Disability Grants and Education Aid in 2010 - 11.
Dharan
Dharan supports 860 welfare pensioners. The AWC is run by Hon Major (Ret'd) Chandraprasad Limbu MBE ex 3 RGR. Dharan AWC holds annual medical and eye camps. I provided £169,000 on Medical Aid, treating over 18,600 cases in 2010 - 11.
AWC Darjeeling
The Area Welfare Centre Darjeeling supports 465 welfare pensioners. It is run by Captain(Ret'd) Damberkumar Pradhan, Ex 6GR. In 2010 - 11, it spent £95,000.00 on Medical Aid and provided grants for 481 hardship cases, 11 disability cases and 3 education cases.
AWC Damak
AWC Damak is managed by Hon Lieutenant Premkumar Tamang Ex Queen's Gurkha Signals. The AWC supports 664 welfare pensioners. In addition, it provided £45,000.00 on Medical Aid, £7,700.00 on Hardship Grants, £3,500.00 on Disability Support Grants and £2,300.00 on Education Aid during the year 2010-11.

Pokhara is home to HQ GWS, British Gurkhas Pokhara, The Gurkha Recruiting Centre & The Gurkha Memorial Museum. Munipal Hospital and the new Residential Home are also here.

Area Welfare CentresArea Welfare Centre Syangja is located about 35 kilometres southwest of the sub-metropolitan city of Pokhara. It is 830 metres above sea level.It was one of the first AWCs to be built and sits in an area of about half an acre of land which is on lease.

Patrol BasesJiri patrol base is situated in North East Nepal. It lies at an altitude of 2000 m above sea level. It is located some 200 km North East of Kathmandu and is currently at the very end of the national road network.
