Providing financial medical and community aid to alleviate hardship and distress among Gurkha ex-servicemen of the British Crown

Jiri Patrol Base Case Study

It is the patrol base for AWC Bagmati, with 152 pensioners using the base. Swiss tourists compare this valley with the beautiful city of Zurich, however the valley has its own importance being the gateway to Mount Everest.

The Jiri people are hard working. They have set up paper factories and lately the villagers have begun planting tea plants in nearby hills. Patrol Base Jiri was established in 2006 and is well situated to serve our ex-servicemen within West Okhaldhunga, Ramechhap and Dolakha districts.

The furthest village would take three days to reach for an 80 year old pensioner. Patrol bases such as Jiri help to keep GWS overheads low whilst maintaining GWS's reach into remote areas.
