Providing financial medical and community aid to alleviate hardship and distress among Gurkha ex-servicemen of the British Crown

Mission Statement

The Gurkha Welfare Trust is a registered charity which was established in 1969. It aims to relieve poverty and distress among Gurkha ex-servicemen of the British Crown and their dependants. This is achieved by raising funds for distribution in Nepal through the Trust's field arm, the Gurkha Welfare Scheme, and responding to welfare needs as they arise in the UK.

The Trust supports around 10,000 welfare pensioners in Nepal. Most are in their 80s and are totally reliant on the Trust for a dignified comfortable old age.

Increasing numbers of Gurkhas will settle in the UK and the Trust is ready to respond. As the lead charity for Gurkha welfare, the Trust has a coordinating role for helping those in need in the UK and other service charities. However, the Trust's firm focus remains Nepal and 10,000 veterans who will spend their final days in the mountain villages.
