All Gurkhas who served four years after 1948 are awarded UK citizenship rights following a high profile campaign by Gurkha Welfare Trust Vice Patron and actress, Joanna Lumley.

The Gurkha Welfare Trust continues to provide welfare pensions for 9,000 veterans in Nepal, together with emergency grants, education grants, medical care and community aid projects through 20 Area Welfare Centres, as well as resolving to help meet the welfare needs of those Gurkhas who choose to settle in Britain.
