The Gurkha Welfare Trust cares for ex-Gurkhas and their families. We help repay the debt of honour owed the brave Gurkha soldiers, who have fought for our freedom for nearly 200 years.
Every one of the 10,000 welfare pensioners supported by the Trust has a remarkable story to tell. This video offers a glimpse into the lives of our these proud people, reaffirming the debt of honour we owe to the Gurkha soldier.

AWC Bheri
There are 294 welfare pensioners that visit the Bheri AWC. In 08/09 they issued 2622 medical grants. The AWC has a pig farm. The AWC is run by Lt(QGO) Mahendrakumar Gurung, Ex QG Signals.
AWC Gulmi
Gulmi is run by Hon Lt(QGO) Haribahadur Rana Ex 1RGR. The AWC supports 519 welfare pensioners. There are nine schools within the area. There is a fruit and vegetable garden at the AWC.
AWC Kaski
Kaski is the second largest AWC with 1013 welfare pensioners. Hon Major Chandrabahadur Gurung MVO, Ex 1RGR is the Area Welfare Officer. 1036 hardship grants were awarded in 08/09.
AWC Lamjung
Lamjung has 404 welfare pensioners. Medical & eye camps are held at the AWC each year. The AWC is run by (QGO)Amarbahadur Gurung Ex 6GR. In 08/09 4629 medical aid grants were awarded.
AWC Gorkha
Gorkha has 296 welfare pensioners. There is bee keeping at the AWC as well as a fruit and vegetable garden. The AWC is run by Lt(QGO) Senbahadur Gurung Ex 6GR.
AWC Syangja
Syangja is run by our Deputy Field Director, Major Krishna Gurung BEM Ex QG Signals. It has 724 welfare pensioners. There are eight schools in the Syangja area.
AWC Tanahun
Tanahun looks after 482 welfare pensioners. The AWC has a pig farm. In 08/09 it awarded 6193 medical grants. Lt(QGO)Purnabahadur Gurung, Ex 1RGR is in charge.
AWC Chitwan
Chitwan has 477 welfare pensioners. Lt(QGO) Uddimbahadur Gurung Ex 2GR manages the AWC. There is a cancer hospital in Chitwan and there are 10 water projects in the surrounding area.
AWC Butwal
Butwal is run by Captain(QGO) Jitbahadur Thapa, Ex 1RGR. It is the largest AWC, looking after 1286 welfare pensioners. 16100 medical aid grants were provided in 08/09.
AWC Bagmati
Run by Hon Maj Lalitbahadur Gurung Ex RGR, Bagmati has 601 welfare pensioners. In 08/09 it awarded 258 educational grants to children of the Brigade.
AWC Rumjatar
AWC Rumjatar is one of the smallest AWCs supporting 217 welfare pensioners. It is run by Inspector II Subharaj Thamsuhang Ex GCSPF. The AWC has orange farming, a fish pond & bee keeping.
AWC Diktel
The AWC is run by Lt(QGO) Yambahadur Limbu Ex QOGLR. It supports 386 welfare pensioners. There are ten GWS water projects in the Diktel region. The AWC has a fish pond.
AWC Bhojpur
In 08/09 Bhojpur awarded 45 educational grants and provided 256 hardship grants. Capt (Retd) Purnaparsad Limbu Ex 2RGR, who runs the AWC looks after 251 welfare pensioners.
AWC Khandbari
The smallest AWC, it supports 184 welfare pensioners. Managed by Hon Lt(QGO) Tikaram Rai, Ex 10GR. There are 12 schools in the area. 1603 medical aid grants were supplied in 08/09.
AWC Tehrathum
Tehrathum supports 264 welfare pesnioners. It is run by Hon Lt(QGO) Bhimprasad Rai Ex 10GR. Tehrathum AWC has a fish pond, vegetable garden and has two water projects in the surrounding area.
AWC Taplejung
Taplejung has 257 welfare pensioners. Run by Hon Lt(QGO) Punendraprasad Limbu, Ex 2RGR, it offers vocational training courses to ex members of the Brigade and their families.
AWC Phidim
Phidim has 304 welfare pensioners. Hon Lt(QGO) Chhatrabahadur Rai, Ex QG Signals, manages the AWC. in 08/09 1491 medical aid grants were provided. There are 13 water projects in the Phidim area.
AWC Dharan
Dharan supports 908 welfare pensioners. The AWC is run by Hon Maj Chandraprasad Limbu MBE 3RGR. Dharan AWC holds annual medical & eye camps.
AWC Darjeeling
Darjeeling has 525 welfare pensioners. It is run by Captain(QGO)(Retd) Damberkumar Pradhan,Ex 6GR. In 08/09 548 hardship grants and 34 educational aid grants were awarded.
AWC Damak
Damak is managed by Hon Lt(QGO) Premkumar Tamang Ex QG Signals. It supports 681 welfare pensioners. There are eight schools in the region. 10375 medical aid grants were provided in 08/09.

Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal. It is home to the British Embassy & HQ British Gurkhas Nepal. It also has a key hospital.
Pokhara
Pokhara is home to HQ GWS, British Gurkhas Pokhara, The Gurkha Recruiting Centre & The Gurkha Memorial Museum. Munipal Hospital and the new Residential Home are also here.
